Joseph Monette Obituary

Joseph “Joe” H. Monette, 87, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, surrounded by family at Pine Harbour in Plattsburgh, NY. Joe was born in Mooers, NY on June 20, 1936, the son of Norman L. Monette, Sr. and Bernadette (Corbiere) Monette.

In his early years, Joe attended school in Mooers, NY. He worked on the family farm and a neighboring farm until he joined the United States Air Force in 1954. After his time in the service, he started working at Georgia Pacific in Plattsburgh, NY and remained there for 41 years until his retirement in 1998.

After retiring, Joe began volunteering his time and helping those in need at the Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf. He was always there to lend a hand and pitch in when the need arose. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 255, and he was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 125 in Plattsburgh, NY. He also enjoyed bartending at events held at both the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.

Some of Joe’s favorite pastimes included playing bingo, going for walks around the neighborhood, helping and visiting his neighbors, attending the weekly Bridge Street auction, collecting coins, dancing, listening to classic country music and spending time with his family and friends.

Joe thoroughly enjoyed his time living at Pine Harbour, and all of the activities, dinners, and special events held there. The family wishes to thank Charles Bradfield, Shelly Bedard and the entire staff at Pine Harbour for their amazing care and concern for Joe. They went above and beyond and it is truly appreciated. The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice of the North Country for all of their time and dedication spent caring for Joe. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to Joe’s niece, Nancy Mazurak, for the countless ways in which she helped her Uncle Joe throughout the years. Her kindness, devotion and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Monique Monette and Brian Ford; his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Jolene Monette; his grandchildren: Ashley Monette, Morgan Monette and Lovisa Ford; his brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Gladys Monette; his sister, Beatrice Dragoon; his brother-in-law Gilles Gagne; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jean Gagne; his sister and brother-in law, Harriet and Leonard Roth; and brother-in-law, Leslie “Skippy” Dragoon, Jr.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 114 Cornelia Street, Plattsburgh, NY.
