Myrna Reid Obituary

Myrna passed away on March 16th, at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility surrounded by family and very caring staff members. She shared many stories of her life there and they all wished they had known her during those exciting years.

Born at the Memorial Hospital in Ormstown, Quebec on January 30th, 1931, the daughter of Halton and Thelma Kennedy.

She attended grade school in Montreal, Quebec and lived in Hemmingford, Quebec, later attending and graduating from Plattsburgh High School.

Myrna had a long career at Ayerst Laboratories in Rouses Point, where she raised her two sons. She was a member of the Eastern Star, local bowling leagues attending three NYSWBA Championship tournaments. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rouses Point, where she sang in the choir for several years as well as participating in Three Steeples choir in Champlain, NY and sang in a very large choir in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she lived for several years. She was a great waitress, serving at Gibby’s in Montreal, the Mountain View Hotel near Mount Washington (which she climbed in her 60s), and restaurants in Florida. She took pride in the “proper way” to set a table and to serve. She took many young servers under her wing, leading the way. She assisted setting tables at the American Legion in her late years (under Courtney’s watch), where she often frequented, socializing with many and became known as, “The Dancing Queen.” Myrna so loved dancing, which she practiced until she recently wasn’t able to dance any longer. Her travels in her life were many, leading her to Ireland, Germany, Italy, France and went to Malawi for mission work. Her apartment was an attestation to all of her relics from her travels. One might say she had that knack of “cluttering well.” She was a member of the North Country Golf Club. She also bungee jumped in her 60s, white water rafted in her 70s, jet skied in her 80s and drove her fast car until she was 89. As “free-spirited” as Myrna was, there wasn’t a challenge that Myrna would forego.

Left to cherish her memory are sons, Gary (Bonnie) Reid, Tom Reid (Grandchild Nolan Reid); grandsons Joshua (Becky) Reid, Amon (Heather) Reid; great grandchild, Adam Garrand; step grandchildren, Katie and Chelsey McDonough; step great grandchildren, Patrick McDonough, Tayla Lewis, Emmaleigha Brant and Calum Brant. She is also survived by nieces, Leslie Kennedy Pruett (Russell Pruett), Patty Kennedy (Eugene), and Debbie Kennedy Murray (George).

She was predeceased by her father, Halton Kennedy (Thelma Kennedy), and her brother Andrew Kennedy (Maude Kennedy).

Arrangements are in the care of the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers, NY. A funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 52 Washington Avenue, Rouses Point on April 6th at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. Committal will follow at a later date of May 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery, 184 US-11, Rouses Point.

Celebration of life to follow burial at the American Legion, 29 Pratt Street, Rouses Point.
